2010-2011 MnACC STUDENT OF COLOR SCHOLARSHIP

Minnesota Association of Counselors of Color (MnACC), established in 1991, is a noncompetitive post-secondary collaborative dedicated to improving access to higher education for Minnesota's students of color.

MnACC is excited to provide scholarships for students of color who are in pursuit of higher education. Students who are awarded this scholarship will receive a one-time award of $500 to be used towards their education during the 2011-2012 academic year.

Application and Selection Process

Every applicant must be:

  • A student of color graduating from a Minnesota high school
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled as a full-time, first year student for the 2011-2012 school year at a MnACC member institution:

4 year private or public college or university / 2 year private or public college or university / Trade or technical college

ESSAY:

In 500 words or less, please write about ONE of the topics below. Careful consideration will be given to both your interaction with the topic and the way in which you present it.  

Leadership: In what ways have you been a leader? Please tell us about your leadership experiences in high school and your plans to carry on your leadership skills after high school.

Community Engagement: How have you engaged with your surrounding communities (neighborhood, high school, cultural community)? Tell us how you have given back to the communities that have served and supported you.

Diversity: In what ways are you committed to issues of equality and diversity? What will you do in the future to inspire equality and diversity in the world around you?

Overcoming Adversity: What hardships have you overcome in order to be successful in your life? Please share the ways that you have overcome adversity, and the ways that adversity has shaped your ambitions for the future.

Future Educators: Have you considered education as a future career? Tell us about your interest in an educational field (teaching, counseling, educational administration, etc.), and how you would shape the future of education.

Please check here if you would like to be considered for the President’s Award. This $1,000 award recognizes one student who has demonstrated strong academic achievement and a clear commitment to one or more of the areas outlined above. This award is presented on behalf of the current president and executive board members at their discretion. In addition to the application and essay, Presidential Award applicants must also include an official high school transcript and a letter of recommendation. Please note that only one Presidential Award will be given.
